Wall spacers

Printed spacers between the room wall and the back of the boxes, one at every box corner. They leave room behind the boxes for the U-clips and your fingers. Fix them to the wall with double-sided tape.

Gap: must fit a U-clip (23 mm) plus your fingers. Width × height: the face that sits on the box edges, centred on the corner where 4 boxes meet. Rim: the frame on both faces where the tape and the box edges sit. Styles: light frame = lightest; 4 posts = full faces for the tape, posts as thick as you set; hollow box = closed sides, very stiff; plus-shaped column = light and strong under pressure; solid = heaviest, simplest. Thinner is lighter, thicker is stiffer. The spacers only hold the distance; the wall still needs a real fixing.

Calibration

Measure first, then fine-tune the fit after a test print. Start with the defaults.

Fin plywood, measured (mm)

Measure the 4 mm plywood for the fins with calipers. It is rarely exactly 4.0. The comb slots follow this number.

Floor plywood, measured (mm)

Measure the 6 mm plywood for the well floors. The slot at the back of each drawer follows this number.

Comb slot play (mm)

Extra room in each comb slot so the fin slides in by hand. Fin too tight: add 0.1. Fin wobbles: take away 0.1.

Drawer side gap (mm)

Gap on each side between drawer and fin. The small bumps on the drawer close this gap and hold it tight. Drawer too hard to push: add 0.1. Drawer rattles: take away 0.1.

Box wall plywood, measured (mm)

Measure the 12 mm plywood of the box walls. The U-clips that join the boxes at the back are sized from it.

Box joint play (mm)

Extra room inside each U-clip. Clip too hard to push on: add 0.1. Boxes can move: take away 0.1.

Wave clip length (mm)

How deep the wave clips go into the box. The drawer side bars sit just behind them.

How to calibrate

Measure both plywoods and type the numbers above.
Export the test pieces below: one complete comb (2 end pieces + 1 middle), two waves, the shortest drawer, both U-clips and a wall spacer.
Slide a fin into the comb, clip the waves onto a fin and push the drawer between two fins.
Change the play by 0.1 and print again until it fits.
